The mission of the Hopkins County Health Care Foundation is to secure funds from individuals, businesses and corporations that will be used to help the hospital with its mission; to promote, maintain and improve the health of the population it serves.

Established in 1997, the Hopkins County Health Care Foundation strives to make a difference in the community and for the hospital.  Previously the Foundation has assisted Memorial Hospital with the renovation of nurses’ stations, provided funds to help Hopkins County Hospice and the C.A.R.E. Unit at Memorial.  The Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization governed by an independent Board of Directors.

For the past several years the Foundation has hosted the annual Lights of Life tree lighting campaign.  In 2005, which marked the 10th anniversary of the Lights of Life campaign, the Foundation raised over $21,000 to support the hospital. Donations of $25 to $5,000 were given by individuals, local businesses and the hospital Volunteer Auxiliary in memory or in honor of loved ones. Every year each $25 donation is represented by a light on the hospital Christmas tree that is placed on the front lawn of the hospital.

In 2006, the Health Care Foundation added a holiday gala to the Lights of Life campaign.  With an aggressive goal of $100,000, the 1st Annual Lights of Life Gala was held on December 8, 2006 at The LODGE.

The LODGE was turned into a winter wonderland and the guests enjoyed the evening by dining on the wonderful food and dancing the night away to the Class Act Band.  The Foundation is thrilled to report that because of the overwhelming support from the community they exceeded the goal of $100,000.   Plans are currently underway for the 2nd Annual Lights of Life Gala which is scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2007.

The 2nd goal of the Foundation was to use a portion of the proceeds raised from the 2006 Gala to build Phase I of The Gardens at Memorial; a peaceful place where patients, their families and friends, hospital staff and the community will be able to go to enjoy the outdoors and improve their  health. The Gardens, to be located west of the hospital, will offer a strolling track, park benches, picnic tables, water features, bridges and flowers.

A Remembrance Lane will offer space for memorials and honorariums, and commemorative plaques will list major Lights of Life sponsors and donors.  Year-round donations to The Gardens project will contribute to the therapeutic part of healing.  It is believed that gardening can be physically, mentally and spiritually healing.

Individuals, businesses and corporations are invited to become involved with the Health Care Foundation.  We invite you to contact the Health Care Foundation to make a donation to the Foundation or to The Gardens at Memorial project.  Please contact Jackie Voss Thornton, Foundation Director at 903-438-4799 for information on how you can make a difference for Hopkins County.
